ResurFX is a re-surfacing laser that causes hundreds of controlled microscopic and pinpoint thermal injuries to the skin. This injury kick starts a skin repair mechanism, thereby stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and the elimination of superficial skin pigmentation. Overall, it improves skin texture, tone and radiance.
Because ResurFX only treats a fraction of the skin, (up to 20%) at a given treatment, it minimises the risks and the downtime of traditional, more aggressive re-surfacing lasers. The remaining uninjured skin acts like a biological plaster allowing the injured skin to heal quickly - within 2-3 days. ResurFX is considered the gold standard for laser skin rejuvenation and is FDA approved for the treatment of sun damage, melasma also known as the ‘mask of pregnancy’ and pitted acne scarring.
ResurFX works well on sun damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, open pores, melasma, pitted acne scarring, and other types of scarring. Results are better in non-smoking patients.
ResurFX is a course of five treatments, spaced one month apart, ideally carried out from September to April. The treatment takes 60 minutes. Firstly, numbing cream is applied to cleansed skin for 30 minutes, the skin is then cleansed and sterilised and the laser is passed. After the treatment, there is significant swelling and redness which can last up to 2 days, similar to a sun burn. As the skin begins to heal, it can feel dry, tight and rough. Regular moisturisation and sun avoidance is key post treatment to maintain the benefits. It is advised not to wear makeup for 24 hours after the treatment.
ResurFX works well in combination with PRP, Botulinum Toxin, Filler which results in optimal facial rejuvenation. It is contraindicated in pregnancy, breast feeding and patients with history of severe cold sores, active acne or taking Roaccutane.
